Last updated: January 2025

Introduction

Welcome to déjà lu, a language learning platform that helps you master vocabulary through reading authentic literature. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of our service. By creating an account or using déjà lu, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

Beta Service Description

déjà lu is currently in beta. This means the service is functional but may contain bugs, incomplete features, or other issues. The interface, features, and content may change without notice as we improve the product. We make no guarantees about the availability, reliability, or completeness of the service during this beta period.

By using déjà lu during beta, you acknowledge that you are using an early version of the product and that your experience may include rough edges or temporary issues.

User Accounts

Registration: To use déjà lu, you must create an account by providing accurate and complete information. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.

Account Security: You are responsible for all activities that occur under your account. You must notify us immediately if you suspect any unauthorized access to your account.

User Responsibilities: You agree to use déjà lu only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You may not use the service to violate any laws or infringe upon the rights of others.

Content and Intellectual Property

Book Content: déjà lu provides vocabulary learning tools based on authentic literary works. The original texts of books (such as Le Petit Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry) remain the intellectual property of their respective authors and publishers. déjà lu does not claim ownership of these original works.

Vocabulary Data: Vocabulary lists, sentence examples, and learning materials created by déjà lu are provided for educational purposes. These materials are designed to support your learning journey and help you understand the original texts.

User-Generated Content: If you provide feedback, comments, or other content to déjà lu, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, modify, and incorporate that content into our service.

Our Intellectual Property: The déjà lu platform, including its design, software, and learning methodology, is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, or distribute any part of the service without our written permission.

Payment and Refunds

déjà lu offers a one-time payment model per book. Pricing may vary based on difficulty level (beginner, intermediate, advanced). All payments are processed through secure third-party payment processors.

Refunds: Due to the digital nature of our service and the immediate access provided upon payment, refunds are generally not available. However, if you experience technical issues that prevent you from using a purchased book, please contact us and we will work with you to resolve the issue.

Beta Pricing: During the beta period, pricing and payment terms may change. We will notify users of any significant changes to pricing before they take effect.

Limitations of Liability

déjà lu is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or meet your specific learning goals.

Beta Disclaimer: As a beta product, déjà lu may contain bugs, incomplete features, or other issues. You use the service at your own risk. We are not liable for any damages arising from your use of the beta service.

Learning Outcomes: While déjà lu is designed to help you learn vocabulary and read literature, we make no guarantees about your learning progress or outcomes. Individual results may vary.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, déjà lu and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service.

Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without cause or notice, if you violate these Terms or engage in any activity that we determine is harmful to the service or other users.

You may terminate your account at any time by contacting us or using account deletion features if available. Upon termination, your right to access and use déjà lu will immediately cease.

Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify users of material changes by posting the updated Terms on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of déjà lu after changes become effective constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.

During the beta period, we may update these Terms more frequently as we refine our service and policies.
